Back after the summer holidays

Welcome back to old and soon to be new Brownies! After a couple of weeks settling back into the swing of things, the Brownies had a music packed session last week and many girls earnt their music badge after lots of hard work - well done!

With lots of intriguing activities planned over the next few weeks, stay tuned!

May so far!

We hope that you all had a lovely long Easter break and are now settling back into the usual routines.

Some Brownies kindly made posters or puzzles over the Easter break, for the Sleepover.  Thank you girls, you have worked hard.

Last week and tonight, at Brownies the girls have worked together to make a beautiful freize to decorate the hall during our sleepover.

Last week at Brownies, forms were handed out to the girls who are coming on the sleepover.  If you have not already done so, please can you return the completed forms to Brownies next Tuesday.  Don't forget that there is also a short meeting straight after Brownies about the sleepover, where information will be provided and any questions you have can be answered.

Tonight we were finally able to tell the Brownies how much money they had raised for the Bertie Boiler campaign. For the new Brownies, Church is trying to raised £15,000 to install a new boiler and heating system as the present one is now very old and needs to be replaced.  We tend to have a cold hall in the winter.  Everyone is currently trying to raise or donate money to the fund.  So if anyone has or knows anyone with a spare few thousand hidden away - please let us know!!!!!

Brownies were given a smartie tube of smarties which they ate and replaced with coins.  In total the Brownies collected £132.32 which was a fantastic effort.  Well done girls.

Unfortunately, its that time of the year again when £10 subs are due.  Thank you to those of you who have already paid and please can those who haven't yet paid, bring it in next week.

April so far!

The last Brownie session before breaking up for the Easter holidays was fantastic. A combined celebration of Easter and the upcoming Royal Wedding meant that the girls (and guiders) were dressed in their best clothes for the party. The girls were busy with games of match the pairs, pass the parcel and an Easter Egg hunt in Church.

Wishing you all a Happy Easter and we'll see you after the holidays!

March so far!

Thank you to all the Brownies who attended the March Church parade. We had a brilliant turnout. Please try to attend the next Church Parade (see Brown Owl's email for details).

The Brownies who attended the District Thinking Day activity afternoon in the half term holiday were awarded with the Craft Interest badge as they had made sufficient items to cover the syllabus.

The Brownies have had a busy few weeks. Thank you to the parents who have donated their time to come in and talk to the girls. We have had a mom come in, who works as an emergency call handler. She talked to the girls about when it is important to call 999 and what to say. A musical dad came in and the Brownies had a fab time singing and dancing.

With the theme of Under the Sea/ Ocean now decided by the Brownies, we can now start watching out for pictures, objects and activities on this theme.

The Brownies are doing really well collecting money for the Bertie Boiler Fundraising Campaign. A big thank you to the girls who have returned their Smartie tubes filled with change. If you haven't returned your tube yet, pass it to one of the Owls and you might be in the running for a prize!

At Brownies, we collect used postage stamps from home and abroad, which are sent off to help a horse and donkey sanctuary to enable them to look after old, retired or neglected horses and donkeys. If you have any stamps, please put them in the brown envelope on our noticeboard. We also collect old unused keys, old or unwanted foreign coins, old mobile phones (please remove the SIM card), old, unwanted or broken jewellery and old watches for the Guide Dog Association. The items are recycled and the money raised goes towards the cost of training new Guide Dogs. Brownies who regularly collect the above can use it towards a clause for the Friends to Animals interest badge.

January - February

Church Parade on Sunday 6th February went really well with a high attendance rate - the Brownies and Rainbows all looked smart as they participated in the "Let your light shine" service.

Over the past few weeks, the Brownies have been Strictly Come Dancing as they have enjoyed dance lessons covering the Waltz, the Cha cha cha and the Quickstep A huge thank you to the mum who has donated her time for the dance lessons. The girls have had great fun, with no dis-aaaaas-ters and they all deserves sevENs (only joking!) - they're all stars who deserve 10s!

The girls also had a feast celebrating Chinese New Year - consisting of rice, noodles and prawn crackers - yum! A game of Kim's game went down well - with the girls demonstrating their expert memories. We also organised some activities focusing on being positive and boosting self-esteem - the girls got to list reasons why they admired each other, resulting in a list of positive things for each girl to decorate and keep.

The session on Tuesday 15th February will involve our own Thinking Day celebrations before half term. In 1926, the 22 February became World Thinking Day (Olave and Robert Baden-Powell's birthdays) - this is a day when members of Guide organisations belonging to the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) think about each other. The theme for World Thinking Day 2011 is Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 3: gender equality and empowering women. Streetly District Rainbows, Brownies and Guides will also be celebrating Thinking Day on Wednesday 23 February by attending a craft afternoon where they will be able to make crafts from different countries.

With a busy March coming up, stay tuned!

November - December

The Brownies have had a busy couple of months.

THANK YOU to all our superstars – the girls were absolutely fab in the Gang Show performances. They worked so hard and performed so well – we are all proud of them. We have had lots of lovely praise about their performances and hope that the girls had great fun too.

THANK YOU to the Brownies who attended Remembrance Church Parade and to those who also completed the walk through Streetly, especially those girls who managed to get up after the two late finishing Gang Show performances in order to attend this parade. Well done.

On Saturday 27th November, the Brownie stall helped raise funds for the Children's Society by asking people to play "Tug-a Tinsel" or Lucky Christmas Gift Bags at the Christmas Fayre. Despite the snow, lots of people still managed to attend the Fayre to help support the Children's Society.

Sunday 5th December was the last Church parade for 2010.The Brownies and Rainbows sang Christmas Carols and made sure that everyone left feeling ready for Christmas.

On Saturday 11th December, the Brownies participated in Christmas Carol Singing at Blackwood Shops.

Last but not least, the Brownie Christmas party on Tuesday 14th December ending with a Christmas sing-along under the Church Christmas tree was a nice end to the winter term.
